An Emphasis on Wellness

With a holistic approach to dentistry, Dr. Wong and his team looks at each patient as a whole and provides dental treatments that are gentle, non-toxic and match the individual and his/her goals. Just as there are different personalities, there are also different dental dispositions which require individualized care. Dr Wong provides his dentistry with this in mind and with an understanding that the mouth is a part of the entire body, thus reflecting the health of the body. With careful examination of the mouth, he may discover underlying systemic conditions such as anemia, cardiovascular disease, Crohn’s disease, Addison disease, diabetes. HIV and leukemia.

In using the term “Wellness Dentistry”, we are not attempting to stake out a new specialty, but rather describe our philosophy toward all facets of our dental practice and to health care in general. With a wellness-first approach, we will always seek the safest, least toxic way to accomplish the mission of treatment and do it while treading as lightly as possible on the patient’s biological terrain. A more biocompatible approach to oral health and overall wellness is the hallmark of wellness dentistry.

By making distinctions – some obvious, and some subtle – among the available materials and procedures, the Affinity Dental Care team can reduce the impact on patients’ biological responses. With so many new ways to make dentistry work better, we can do just that.

People: A Complex Equation

The number one concern of a wellness dentist is the well-being of each patient – not just concerning the use of biocompatible materials but also on the state of one’s mental health and the effect of treatment on the ensemble of the body. A good dentist should be able to listen and accommodate patients’ restraints, such as time, health and finances, to provide options that achieve their dental goals without mentally stressing the patient out.

“I like to see health as a state of vigor, of wholeness, not just the absence of illness.” Dr. Kenneth Wong

Clean Dentistry

With a focus on promoting preventive dentistry Dr. Wong believes in maintaining one’s natural teeth and their surrounding tissues more than trying to fix issues by introducing artificial and foreign objects into the mouth. He often uses essential oils and natural herbal mouth rinses to treat gum disease and canker sores. He recommends diets with nutrients and minerals, (phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, Vitamin A, D, B, K), fibre-rich fruits and vegetables, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, lean sources of protein and probiotics as a part of the preventive dentistry he practices.

Although a dentist can diagnose some medical conditions, it is essential that you find a dentist who is aware of the harmonius relationship between dental health and overall well being.
