The Types of Dentures
While advancements in dentistry have made it easier to go your entire life without the need of dentures, there are still some circumstances where dentures can play a role in healthy oral care. Here are the types of dentures we can provide:
Partial Dentures
Like any dentures, partial dentures are removable by the wearer. They are made up of one or more artificial teeth held in place by clasps that fit onto nearby natural teeth. There are a few types of materials that we typically use to make dentures – acrylic plastic, nylon and metal components are all options and can be catered to the patient. When Dr. Wong designs your dentures, he takes into account comfort, stability and of course aesthetics, to bring you the best dentures for your lifestyle and mouth.
Complete Dentures
Complete dentures can also be referred to as full dentures or “false teeth” and are used when all your natural teeth are missing. Complete dentures are held in place by suction and as such, are removable by the wearer. Typically we use only acrylic material in the creation of complete dentures.
Overdentures
If you are having trouble with your dentures, complete or partial. Dr. Wong may suggest overdentures. An overdenture is a removable denture that fits over the natural tooth stump in your mouth or over dental implants. The overdenture attaches to the implants or rests on your natural teeth. It can be a nice segue to more traditional partial or complete dentures down the road.
Dr. Wong and his team will discuss your choice in detail. Call if you are thinking of getting dentures and want a dentist who takes into account your whole body.
