I recently watched the 1986 video of Melissa Lynn singing “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth” on YouTube. Rather than wishing for toys or dolls as a little six-year-old girl, Melissa was longing for her two front teeth back! The disadvantages of two missing front teeth can be overwhelming for a lot of people, and a six-year-old child is no different. When everyone stops to stare, having two missing teeth can be embarrassing!
If you’ve seen the video, you can only imagine how much Melissa wishes she could only whistle and be able to say the words “Sister Susie sitting on a thistle”. I bet she really wanted to smile and laugh along with her family and friends during the holiday season. Not to mention her inability to eat the delicious chestnuts roasting on the open fire!
Some adults would rather wish for the latest 65” LED smart TV or an all-inclusive vacation to Cancun for a week despite their missing or crooked teeth. Some people may have dental conditions like dental decay, periodontal (gum) disease, abscesses, and even mobile and worn-down teeth! They place their wellness and oral health below other worldly things. This Christmas, focus on putting YOU, your WELLNESS and your HEALTH at the top of your wishlist!
While Santa is a bringer of gifts, he isn’t a dentist nor an oral surgeon (as far as I know!), so although we may wish for it, he can’t give us the teeth we want, even if we are on the “nice list”. Even if he brought us the implants, the crowns, veneers, fixed bridges or the removable dentures or plates, Santa doesn’t have the tools and equipment, nor the skill and knowledge to place the implants or the bridges in properly. And you definitely wouldn’t want him to do surgery while you’re asleep in your bed!
Health should always be our top wish, and dental health is no exception. So why wouldn’t we choose to find a trusted, empathetic and welcoming dental clinic nearby to get the implants we desire, the cosmetic dentistry we long for, or the straight, white Hollywood smile we dream about?
Exercising and becoming physically fit is a popular new year’s resolution, and seeking professional dental treatment from a qualified dentist or a dental surgeon to gain that health and confidence is no different. My clinic, Affinity Dental Care, in Burlington absolutely adheres to that motto and philosophy. I truly believe a person’s wellness is the epitome of all happiness – it is priceless and should not be ranked below the latest TV or tropical vacation. I would be delighted to provide you with a thorough examination and cleaning, and walk you through the most appropriate treatment plan to meet your needs. Don’t be afraid to call or email us to book an appointment and take that first step towards wellness.
Melissa would be disappointed to find out that Santa Claus wouldn’t be able to give her the two front teeth that she so desperately wants. Fortunately for her, Santa CAN bring a patient, passionate and caring dentist to help her attain the dental goal she wants. Let me be that dentist. 😊
